Alkaline Diet - Post two

Today Tom, the person who runs the raw foods kitchen explained to me why I should become a vegan. He told me that one pad of butter has seven million pathogens of disease causing bacteria that my immune systems is constantly trying to work off, while an entire meal of vegetables only has 500. I still do not plan on giving up meat let alone diary. The centers main goal is healing so although the raw foods kitchen makes things like flax seed bars and brittle, the green smoothies are for healing purposes. Tom explained to me today that the green smoothies are part of the alkaline diet, which is supposed to cure cancer according to alternative schools of medicine. Sugar apparently makes cancer cells swell and grow, which is obviously really bad for people with cancer. Basically all that people can eat on this diet is avocados, celery, parsley, cilantro, cucumbers, lemons, limes, garlic, and salt. The alkaline diet is a more extreme version of vegan; it’s based on foods that do not breakdown to be acidic in the body. One of the girls who I work with at the center, who has cancer, was talking to me about how she went through chemo before finding the Creative Healing Center. She told me that the alkaline diet is the best thing she has ever done and that she wished she had never tried radiation and other similar treatments. Tom told me that the diet is not just for people with cancer but also for healthy people who want to maintain their health and increase their energy. Apparently if I drink a quart of the “green smoothies” every day I should notice a difference in my overall feeling in about ten days. According to Tom the diet does not just improve physical health but also mood and mental health. As a disclaimer all of the remedies and medical beliefs expressed above are those of the center I am working at not my own personal opinion.
