The past few days have been hectic, and today was one of the busiest. I worked with Melissa again, and we began like we always do in the front kitten room. Only two of the original four were left because the first two ginger tabbys had been adopted, and the white tabby was on hold to be picked up later that day. I got to entertain the naughty kitten again and found out he is fascinated with long hair!
We then moved to Cat Isolation to check on the ten cats in there. During this time I met two other workers, Lisa and Susan, but spent most of my time playing with the cats there. I've already grown attached two a few in the room, Broadway, a long haired calico, Nadia, a green eyed tortoiseshell, and Jake, a fluffy gray tom. Melissa, Lisa, and I decided to move two of the cats, Henrietta and Gardner, to the Drop Off Room, which also holds cages for cats but has more room. I moved the cats' things while Melissa and Lisa handled the two cats while we switched rooms. I think the two really enjoyed the extra space their new cages provided.
Melissa and I then tackled the Recovery Room, where cats who have undergone surgery stay. I cleaned four of the recently used cages, and then moved on to clean the two empty cages in Cat Isolation that Gardner and Henrietta once had. I all but climbed into these cages to remove every inch of filth off the walls, since Henrietta and Gardner were both sick. While diving into Henrietta's cage I kept getting distracted because of Broadway (whose cage was above me) grabbing my hair and trying to bang my head against her cage, but it was cute!
We finished these cages, and then did trash duty twice. At the end of my day I was really excited because I got to see the dogs, even if I was just picking up the used bowls and carrying them back to the kitchen to be washed. Like the cats, I've come to like a few of the dogs there, specifically two boarder collie puppy mixes with floppy ears! It may be awhile until I get to handle the dogs, but I look forward to taking them on walks in the future!
I plan on sneaking all of these cute animals back to my house before they are adopted. :]
